A Kuwaiti national has reportedly been given a 17-year jail sentence for insulting the Amir of Kuwait while in Qatar.
The man was deported by Qatari authorities shortly after he posted a video online defaming the Kuwaiti ruler, reported Gulf Daily News.
The national has allegedly fled Kuwait.
However, the Court of Appeals has sentenced those who helped him flee to 10 years in jail.
Kuwait has arrested several people in the past few years for insulting its ruling family.
In 2013, it sentenced a young activist to two years in jail for defaming Kuwait’s Amir on Twitter.
