The Saudi Arabian government has begun rolling out compensation packages to families left homeless last April by earthquakes in the Al Ais region and wider Madinah province, Arab News has reported.
Each evacuee will receive SR15,000 ($4,000) from the Finance Ministry in Madinah and Yanbu, to be used as a three-month housing allowance in compensation for leaving their home.
The state-funded payment will be allocated at a rate of SR5,000 per month, for 12 weeks, the paper said.
More than 5,000 people were forced to flee their homes in the quake-hit area last year, after it was rocked by tremors registering 4.68 on the Richter scale.
Many were housed in temporary tents in the deserts, while others were taken to nearby hotels and rented apartments.
