An American tourist has paid $5,450 (AED20,000) for 24 speeding violations he picked up during the course of one day in Dubai.

Jonathan Beall, a businessman from Texas, USA, recorded the violations while driving on the Dubai-Al Ain road in a rented Mercedes Benz on September 24, on what was his first visit to Dubai.

Twenty-two of the violations were registered in just 46 minutes with speed cameras flashing almost every two minutes between 8.19am and 9.05am.

Beall was driving at speeds ranging from 130 to 150km/h, with the maximum speed limit on the stretch being 120km/h, according to Gulf News.

“Something is amiss because as per the records shared by the car rental firm, I exceeded the speed limit twice at 8.36am in Al Ain and then in Dubai at 8.38am. Surely I can’t be at both places at the same time,” said Bell who cleared the fines before leaving the country,” he told the newspaper.

Car rental company SIXT said they followed procedure and charged the client for the violations he had committed.
