Nineteen Arab women were honoured for their contributions to numerous sectors of society, including business, education, medicine and literature, at the ninth annual Arab Woman UAE 2017 awards
The awards, which were held under the patronage of the UAE’s newly appointed Minister of Tolerance, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, were presented to the winners at a ceremony at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.
Among this year’s winners were Jameela Al Muhairi, the UAE’s first female Minister of Public Education, SEDRA Foundation CEO Reem Al Fahim, and oncoplastic surgeon Dr Mouza Al Ameri.
Additionally, a number of “future stars” of the UAE were celebrated during the event, including social virtual community founder Heba Al Samt, jewellery designer Shamsa Alabbar and Zahra Lari, the first UAE figure skater to compete at the international level.
“Our winners are outstanding individuals making a difference to society in the way we live, think, work and communicate,” said Sue Holt, the founder of the Arab Woman Awards.
“I personally always find it amazing to discover women in the UAE, many of which have not been publically known before, who are achieving things for the greater good.”
