A building put together without concrete, wood or steel is in its final stages of construction in Abu Dhabi.
Made of ‘sandwich panels’ incorporating the very latest composite materials used to make the new generation of aircraft including the Boeing 787, the new building will be the home of real estate developers Tameer Holding on Al Reem Island.
The revolutionary building technology, cheaper and quicker to install than other methods, has been brought to the UAE by the InnoVida Group, a multinational US company with operations in Germany, the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America and the UK.
Tameer CEO Dr Abdallah Shaaban, said the concept would have a far-reaching impact on the construction industry, reducing its dependence on cement, wood, steel and labour. It is also environmentally friendly.
The US$1.9bn complex on Al Reem Island will be constructed from panels, made of proprietary synthetic composite materials to allow greater thermal and sound insulation. They are used with InnoVidaResin which makes them easier to put up, without the need for heavy machinery.
They are stronger and lighter than traditional materials as well as being non-flammable, waterproof and hurricane resistant.
