UAE e-commerce site aims to increase range of products for GCC customers
Souq.com has added a new range of Amazon products to its website, called AmazonBasics.
AmazonBasics is the US company’s own brand range of affordable items, including electronic cables, laptop bags, rucksacks and passport covers. Most items range between AED20 and AED50.
Souq.com founder and CEO Ronaldo Mouchawar posted the news on his Facebook account, including a screenshot of Souq.com’s homepage that states the range is subject to a 25 percent discount for a limited time.
The addition of AmazonBasics is the first practical move to integrate the two company’s services since Amazon acquired the UAE-based e-commerce retailer in May.
The deal, which was first announced in March and completed in July, was worth $580 million according to Nasdaq filings.
In an interview with Arabian Business this week, Mouchawar said that offering GCC customers greater product choice was a priority for both parties.
“It’s a big focus for us,” he said. “We’ve seen in the past that some customers tend to buy products internationally because they’re not available in the region and we want to make sure we address that.
“We feel choice is a big customer value proposition. We want to make sure customers do have the choice. But also ensure that delivery and the experience is superior and well managed.”For all the latest retail news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
