Ronaldo Mouchawar said global store products could be featured in Souq's customer experience centre
Dubai-based e-commerce giant Souq.com will expand the Amazon Global Store, which it launched yesterday in the UAE, to more markets in the region, according to co-founder and chief executive Ronaldo Mouchawar.
Speaking to Arabian Business, Mouchawar said the firm is currently focused on the UAE market, but has plans to make the store available to customers in the GCC and Egypt.
“We have sites across the region and we’ll be able to avail more markets in time, but we have to make sure the customer experience is intact and make sure we can scale it. So today, the focus is on the UAE,” he said.
Amazon Global Store allows customers in the UAE to choose from over one million products from US-based Amazon.com, in Arabic or English, and pay in their AED local currency.
Its shipping options will include priority (2-5 business days) and expedited (6-10 business days).
However, Mouchawar said all the shipping methods that are available on Souq will be available on all products.
He also said the global store products might be introduced into Souq’s customer experience centre on Sheikh Zayed Road.
“Today, the global store products will ship directly to the customer, not through our experience centre, but in time we can evolve that. If it’s something customers want, it’s not difficult to do,” he said.
Several payment methods including cash on delivery is available, while product categories include apparel, handbags, shoes, watches, kitchen and home goods and many more.
Customers can speak directly with the service team at Souq, a subsidiary of Amazon, in English or Arabic for any queries, and are able to return product for a full refund within 30 days, in most cases.
The Amazon storefront is available on both the Souq website and mobile app.
