Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) said on Sunday that duty free sales reached almost AED200m for the first quarter of 2012, a record for a three-month performance.
Abu Dhabi Duty Free posted 32.2 percent increase in revenue year on year, against traffic growth of 21 percent in the first quarter of this year.
Mohammed Al Bulooki, ADAC chief commercial officer, said the dynamic growth was partly due to the completion of Terminal 1 refurbishment.
He said the average spend at Abu Dhabi International Airport was now one of the highest in the region.
“The company will continue to focus on service, value, width and breadth of range, luxury offering, exclusive brands and launches to drive Abu Dhabi Duty Free to even higher levels of success,” added Al Bulooki.
The Q1 performance announcement follows a record year for Abu Dhabi Duty Free in 2011 when it posted sales of more than AED650m and registered 12.4 percent increase compared with 2010.
In December, Abu Dhabi Duty Free said it had witnessed its single largest retail transaction which was more than $374,000.
It is thought to be the single largest airport retail sale in the world, officials said.
