Royal Spirit, a premium alcohol store in Abu Dhabi, will “soon” launch its signature label, as well as a delivery app, the company’s co-founder and managing director Trupti Majethiya revealed to Arabian Business in an exclusive interview.

The alcohol store, which is backed by D1 Global – a reputable UAE petroleum company – launched in October in Abu Dhabi, and has lounge-like space spanning 3,500 square feet.

With the aim of providing an affordable luxury experience for customers of all tastes and budgets, Royal Spirit’s store boasts over 1,000 different labels and 700 brands.

“We are launching Royal Spirit’s own signature label soon – an endeavour that will put our brewing expertise to the test and one that we are immensely proud of,” Majethiya said, adding that this is part of the company’s efforts to be “in sync with customer movements, featuring labels and products that are in demand globally and locally.”

The store also features branded accompaniments such as glassware, cigars and premium chocolates in addition to its beverage selection.

Sourced globally, Royal Spirit has “something for everyone”

When asked what makes Royal Spirit’s beverage selection unique and different from other retail stores, Majethiya said that the labels available are “tastefully sourced” from the world over, with a focus on artisanal distillers, quality and rarity.

“Curated selections are Royal Spirit’s defining characteristic, one that differentiates it from typical retailers. Our selection process is rooted in the deep knowledge of the labels, their history, nuances in flavour, and an unshakeable passion for all things beverages,” she said.

Royal Spirit, Majethiya said, has got “something for everyone” be it those who want to consume alcohol socially or are a connoisseurs of the same.

“Everyone will find exactly what they seek at the right price, in a luxury setting with experiences that will leave a lasting impression. As a super distributor, Royal Spirit has different models, including bespoke offerings for hotels, a private division, and boutique tastings, where customers have much more to be delighted about,” she said.

Moreover, Royal Spirit is championing the concept of “responsible retailing,” Majethiya said, adding that the store is placing paramount importance on the health, safety, and overall well-being of its customers.

This approach includes the sourcing and sale of beverages exclusively from reputable brands renowned for their unwavering commitment to excellence.

What sets Royal Spirit apart is its dedication to transparency, ensuring that customers are empowered to make well-informed decisions and receive nothing short of the finest quality beverages that truly deliver value for their money, she added.

Choosing Abu Dhabi over Dubai for alcohol retail and expansion plans

When asked why Royal Spirit launched in Abu Dhabi over Dubai, in terms of consumer demand, Majethiya said: “The Dubai market is restricted to two major players — a duopoly that poses barriers to entry. After a thorough analysis, we chose the Abu Dhabi market, which, on the other hand, not only exhibited strong demand but also presented a gap that we are well-equipped to fill.

“Our go-to-market and differentiation strategy involves launching a premium beverage store featuring luxury brands that are rare and globally renowned. While the Abu Dhabi market is our priority, we will explore expansion into other Emirates and beyond based on feasibility.”

Bridging the gap in alcohol retail in Abu Dhabi

Majethiya’s Royal Spirit, she said, is a product that was established as “part science, part art,” after she recognised “a gap in the beverage retailing landscape.”

“The lack of a differentiated, premium, luxury buying experience – taking cognizance of that gap and supported by my knowledge of beverages,” she launched the premium alcohol store.

To bridge this gap, Majethiya has a series of plans outlining its long-term goals, which include expanding its range of products and labels, with a particular focus on limited editions.

The company also aims to increase its market presence both regionally and globally. One of its key areas of emphasis is sustainability, with a commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices in packaging and production.

In addition, Royal Spirit plans to build a community of beverage enthusiasts by collaborating with leading hospitality brands, supporting local talent, and hosting tastings and boutique events to educate attendees about brewing.

To enhance customer convenience, the company will be launching the Royal Spirit app, she said, aimed at providing easy access to their online store and enabling customers to order beverages using handheld devices.

This launch will coincide with special offers, party packs, and discounted prices for the upcoming festive season.

These community-focused initiatives aim to help people host parties conveniently and affordably.
