Civil defence and rapid-intervention teams have put out a blaze that gutted three shops in the building of Baniyas Cooperative Society on the road between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
The fire destroyed the three shops but no casualties were reported during the incident on Wednesday evening, news agency WAM reported.
Lt Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, director general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence was quoted as saying that teams rushed to the scene after the fire started at 4.45pm local time and prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
Although no cause was given for the fire, Al Ansari called on owners of businesses and of warehouses to ensure their properties meet safety requirements, make sure that all electrical wiring is safe and to avoid overloading power transformers.
