UAE petrol prices slashed for December 2024; now at cheapest point this year

Petrol prices will be reduced to the cheapest amount this year, as motorists were handed a reduction in the cost of Super 98, Special 95 and E-Plus 91. Diesel prices have seen a nominal increase.

It is the cheapest to fill up a tank in more than a year and will be welcomed by motorists who have seen prices fluctuate throughout 2024.

In January 2024, E-Plus 91 was priced at AED2.64 a litre, while diesel was set at AED3 a litre.

With the latest price cut, E-Plus 91 is now cheaper (at AED2.43 litre) than at the start of the year.

Special 95 and Super 98 are also less expensive now than at the start of the year, falling from AED2.71 to AED2.50 a litre and AED2.82 to AED2.61 a litre respectively.

From December 1, the cost of filling up vehicles in the UAE will be:

• Diesel: AED2.68 a litre from AED2.67 in November
• Super 98: AED2.61 a litre from AED2.74 in November
• Special 95: AED2.50 a litre from AED2.63 in November
• E-Plus: AED2.43 a litre from AED2.55 in November

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Fuel Price Committee froze petrol prices in the UAE, preventing any changes.

However, in March 2021, as global oil prices began to rise, the controls were lifted to allow market forces to determine petrol prices once again.

Moreover, the fluctuation in petrol prices is also influenced by changes in crude oil prices worldwide.

UAE fuel prices
