Diageo, the spirits maker, said net sales increased 16 percent this year in
the Middle East and North Africa and the company forecasts business in the
region doubling over the next five years.
“There are huge
opportunities for growth in the region,” Jane Ewing, head of global travel and
the Middle East, said at a conference in Dubai.
Sales rose 6 percent last year among the countries in MENA,
Ewing said. Sales in the UAE dropped 30 percent in 2009, she said.
The London-based Diageo
produces and markets alcoholic beverages, including Smirnoff vodka.
