Sam Allardyce has said he is interested in the vacant managerial job at Abu Dhabi’s Al Jazira and would relish going head to head with new Al Wasl coach Diego Maradona.
Allardyce, who has 10 years experience of managing in the English Premier League with Bolton, Newcastle and Blackburn, is keen to take Al Jazira to the next level following their Pro League title and Presidents Cup success this season, Sport360 reported on Friday.
Allardyce lost his job at Blackburn last December and has since been working as a television pundit.
He told Sport360: “I am definitely interested. I got an offer last summer for a job with Al Ahli which is something I was interested in but unfortunately my club, Blackburn, did not want me to leave so I couldn’t move for forward with that scenario.
“So when a job comes up in that part of the world and in particularly with Jazira it is something I would love to do.
“Al Jazira have been very successful so to take my ten years Premier League experience into the club would be a good match.”
If Allardyce was offered the job to replace Brazilian Abel Braga, he would hope to improve on the performance of fellow Premier League manager David O’Leary who was sacked by Al Ahli last month.
The former Leeds United coach has been replaced by Abdulhamid Almastaki after Al Ahli won just 10 of the 30 matches they played since he was appointed last July.
