Over 1,000 new companies have been registered with Ajman Freezone so far in 2019.
And Fatema Salem, acting general manager of the freezone, told Arabian Business that 91 percent of existing companies have renewed their contracts.
She said: “We have grown from previous years. If we look at the first half of the year in 2019, the growth is around eight percent from last year.
“The trend is continuing in the growth. Every month we are registering new companies plus we renew the existing companies.”
The freezone underwent a digital transformation recently when it developed an IT system aimed at accelerating the business start-up process. This, combined with a mobile app, has enabled hundreds of companies to establish and re-register their businesses in a simple four step process.
Salem revealed there are currently around 8,000 companies operating out of the freezone, which is running at between 80 and 85 percent occupancy, with particular demand for long-term leasing in its office space.
“This is part of the growth,” said Salem.
Ajman Freezone already has a footprint in 15 countries, including Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, the UK and Indonesia; and Salem said they were hoping to increase that in the future, with plans to have a presence in the lucrative Chinese market as well as South Africa and Russia.
“Definitely we are looking to expand and we are looking at certain places, but it will be a gradual development” she said.
Salem also said they were “discussing options” with a view to taking part in Dubai Expo 2020, “either directly or indirectly”, she said.
