A recent report from Boston Consulting Group shows that awareness and enthusiasm for AI and generative technologies remain strong in the UAE. However, a mixed outlook also persists.
The global consultancy surveyed over 21,000 people across 21 countries to gauge sentiment towards AI. In the UAE, 91 percent of respondents were aware of generative AI, and 34 percent currently use related technologies.
While 37 percent expressed excitement, 46 percent felt conflicted and 17 percent concerned. This resulted in a net positive sentiment of 20 percent when subtracting those concerned from excited.
“While perception and usage vary by market, age, and exposure, consumers in the UAE profoundly appreciate AI, surpassing many other regions,” Rami Mourtada, Partner & Director at BCG said.
“This finding highlights the region’s forward-thinking attitude towards technology and should be a wake-up call for business leaders. The high engagement levels in the UAE show the need for responsible AI frameworks that address consumers’ data privacy concerns. We must continue fostering this positive outlook while addressing the concerns accompanying such seismic shifts,” he added.
Support for AI in the workplace was also higher in the UAE, with 67 percent of employees excited by potential benefits. In contrast, only 13 percent expressed job concerns.
“The enthusiasm for GenAI among UAE professionals underscores a dynamic workforce that sees AI as a tool and a partner in driving innovation and efficiency. We must continue to foster this positive outlook while addressing the concerns that accompany such transformative changes,” Mark Zaleski, Managing Partner & Director at BCG X added.
The report recommends transparency when innovating consumer applications, and piloting ideas in receptive markets, possibly with tailored privacy approaches.
Leaders must also focus on managing technological changes’ people aspects through processes.
Trust from addressing both enthusiasm and concerns will help leaders responsibly navigate opportunities emerging from AI adoption.
