More than 1,140 quad bikes have been confiscated by Dubai Police Traffic Department in a crackdown on traffic violators.
The confiscation included motorbikes used by grocery and supermarket workers who use them for deliveries and police chiefs have slammed their antics which they say put other motorists at risk.
Officers said they are stepping up patrols to target riders who drive recklessly after taking a total of 1,143 off the road for a range of offences.
“Those motorbikes were usually not registered at the Traffic Department, while some had expired registrations which is a clear violation of the traffic safety rules,” said Lt Col Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, deputy director of Traffic Department.
“These youngsters ignore all road safety rules, as they drive in the opposite direction of traffic and move from one lane to the other which is uncivilised behaviour and show no respect to other road users.”
Meanwhile, Maj. Hassan Nasser Abdel Razaq, campaign supervisor, added: “Any unregistered motorbike that police catch will be confiscated and never returned because its presence on the road is wrong in the first place, as it is unregistered and does not comply with safety standards.”
