Emirates airline is extending its codeshare agreement with New York-based JetBlue to connect Dubai with Costa Rica, an Emirates spokesperson said on Tuesday.
In a statement to Arabian Business, the spokesperson confirmed that the expanded codeshare agreement between the two airlines will include the Costa Rican capital of San Jose and Liberia, the capital of the country’s Guanacaste province.
The codeshare flights will become available from September 17.
“This will provide our customers more flexibility and seamless connections to Costa Rica via Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, New York JFK and Boston,” the spokesperson said.
“Emirates passengers can now access over 150 codeshare routes across the United States, Caribbean and Mexico via its 12 US gateways.”
Epsy Campbell Barr, Costa Rica’s First Vice President, told local news outlet Q Costa Rica that she was pleased that the work of the Costa Rican embassy in the UAE, the Foreign Ministry and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) “has paid off.”
“Economic diplomacy is an important development tool for the progress of our society,” she said.
Costa Rica and the UAE established embassies in San Jose and Abu Dhabi in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and citizens of both countries do not require a visa to travel between both countries.
In January, Costa Rica announced plans to open a trade representative office in Dubai with the aim of boosting trade between the Latin American country and the emirate.
