A man and has girlfriend have been arrested by Dubai Customs for allegedly stealing suitcases from other passengers at Dubai International Airport, authorities have announced.
According to officials, an Arab man and his girlfriend were detained after Dubai Customs received reports that luggage was vanishing from the airport’s arrival hall during the busy Christmas period.
“We received reporters of disappearing luggage,” Dubai Customs director of passenger operations Ibrahim Al Kamali was quoted as saying by Sharjah-based Gulf Today. “A team of officers collected all information on the flights and the data covered 20,000 passengers, which was cut down to only 10 suspects in a record time.”
Upon further analysis, the data led to the suspects.
During the incident, which took place on December 30, the two suspects were caught with stolen suitcases, which they had removed the tags from.
“The thieves must have thought it was the perfect time to steal suitcases from the busy luggage carousels at the airport and get away with them,” Al Kamali added. “Sophisticated technology and excellent coordination by our team of professionals helped thwart the attempt.”
