Police at New York’s JFK Airport carried out a detailed search of an Alitalia flight after a bomb threat on Sunday.
US media reported that police and K9 units searched the aircraft shortly after the Alitalia flight from Milan landed in New York. All baggage on board the aircraft was also searched, as passengers waited for an hour and a half on buses, before they were reunited with their belongings after they re-boarded the plane.
Alitalia, which is part-owned by Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways, issued a statement via its Twitter account saying all passengers safely disembarked the aircraft.
“Alitalia has been informed by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) of a bomb threat on its flight AZ604 Milan-JFK. Emergency procedures have been put in place. The flight safely landed in JFK at 4.08pm local time. All passengers disembarked without any problem,” read the statement.
