Aramex to open perishable hub in Dubai

Aramex has revealed plans to create a specialised warehousing facility in Dubai for the perishables market.

Aramex has revealed plans to create a specialised warehousing facility in Dubai for the perishables market.

The logistics company has designed its latest ‘cool chain’ solution to capitalise on the market growth for flowers and other perishables coming into the United Arab Emirates, intended for either the local market or redistribution into other countries.

“Aramex operates one of the most extensive land freight networks in the Middle East, linking major cities in the Gulf and Levant, and providing total transportation solutions to a variety of business sectors,” said Hussein Hachem, vice president of Aramex in the UAE and Oman.

“Over the years, we have grown an incredible insight into these markets, enabling us to create innovative solutions, such as the new perishables service,” he added.

Hoping to create a complete ‘cool chain’ solution, Aramex is treating the warehousing facility as the starting point of the process. The company is also providing a fleet of refrigerated trucks, which will make daily trips across the Middle East. In addition, the temperature controlled hub will offer a variety of value-added services, including cutting, wrapping and branding, which will be supported by a tracking system, inventory management software and online ordering technology.

“The new cool chain will replace the existing air and land model that covers each destination separately. The first stage is to establish the handling hub in Dubai, which will see perishables from various international origins delivered to diverse destinations regionally first then globally,” said Hachem.
