Planning to build a hub that will facilitate for the movement of perishables coming to and from the UAE, the logistics company hopes to capture the growing demand currently focused on the transportation of flowers and other perishable items.
“Aramex operates one of the most extensive land freight networks in the Middle East region linking major cities in the Gulf and the Levant and providing total transportation solutions to a variety of business sectors,” said Hussein Hachem, vice president for UAE and Oman, Aramex.
“Over the years, we have grown an incredible insight into these markets enabling us to create innovative solutions such as the perishables,” he added.
Hoping to create a complete ‘cool chain’, Aramex view the hub as the starting point of the process. The hub will feature temperature controlled cold store, cutting, wrapping, hydrating, bundling, branding, pricing, tagging, tracking system, inventory management, and on line orders
This will be complemented by refrigerated trucks, which will offer daily trips across the UAE and the rest of the region. This will be particularly beneficial for the transportation of flowers of which Aramex hopes to cater for through an online tracking system.
“The new cool chain will replace the existing air and land model that covers each destination separately. The first stage is to establish the handling hub in Dubai which will see perishables from various international origins delivered to diverse destinations regionally first then globally,” said Hachem.
