Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air on Monday announced that it will be resuming flights to Mashhad in Iran, with four weekly flights starting next month.
The national carrier of Bahrain said in a statement that the Iran flights would start on December 14.
Relations between Bahrain and Iran have been strained by Bahraini accusations that Iran is behind the ani-government unrest, something Iran denies.
Last year, Gulf Air said it was planning to restart flights to Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz and Isfahan but the relaunch was dogged by delays in getting approval from aviation authorities.
Last week, Gulf Air said that it would be resuming its flights to Thiruvananthapuram in India more than three years after halting the service following a financial review.
The airline will resume operations to the Indian city with five weekly, starting on December 15.
Gulf Air said in July that its restructuring strategy was on track after reducing its overall losses by more than 50 percent in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period last year.
As part of the restructuring plan, Gulf Air said it has cut its total workforce by 25 percent year-to-date.
