Singapore Airlines has started auctioning seats for the world’s first commercial A380 flight, which flies on October 25.
The Asian carrier listed economy, business class and suite seats on auction website ebay two days ago for the A380 launch flight from Singapore to Sydney.
Bids for economy seats start at US$3.80, while business class and suites will cost passengers at least $38 and $380 respectively. Tickets for the return leg on October 26 are also available.
The proceeds will go to Australian charities Sydney Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital in Westmead. Singapore’s Community Chest and the Doctors without Borders charities will also receive a share of the cash.
Meow-Seng Lim, Singapore’s general manager for the Middle East, revealed the tickets have already generated huge interest. “It’s a lifetime opportunity to get on this first flight,” he said.
Lim added that one bidder has offered $38,000 for a suite booking.
Singapore Tourism Board’s Siew-Kheng Kang believes the A380 launch will help promote Singapore as a family destination.
“There are not many places where you can party until 3am and get a taxi back safely to your hotel, so it’s a safe place for families,” she said.
