Cathay Pacific initiates quarantine-free travel between Hong Kong and Mainland China effective January 8. Transit restrictions will also be lifted.
In light of the airline’s recent announcement, Cathay Pacific will double flights into the Chinese Mainland operating 61 flights per week between Hong Kong and 12 cities in Mainland China.
Currently, Cathay Pacific operates 27 flights from Hong Kong to the Mainland and 50 flights per week from the Mainland to Hong Kong.
The airline is working actively to resume and add more lights to the route with the aim of operating over 100 return flights per week by March 2023.

“The New Year has welcomed us with positive developments. We have always had strong connections into the Chinese Mainland and are delighted to more than double our frequency. With the Chinese Mainland lifting its quarantine and transit requirements, we anticipate the demand to travel further grow particularly with the upcoming Chinese New Year,” said Vishnu Rajendran, Area Manager, Middle East for Cathay Pacific.
“The increase in operations will provide travellers, particularly from the business and trade segment with more options and accessibility to travel,” he added.
The airline is also resuming flights to Guangzhou with five return flights per week.
However, other countries are tightening restrictions on travel to and from China, Arabian Business reported.
The United States of America, joined India, Italy, Japan and Taiwan in announcing the mandatory requirement of Covid-19 tests for travellers from China, Hong Kong and Macau.
The US also issued a travel alert on Wednesday advising Americans to “reconsider travel to China, Hong Kong, and Macau” and citing “reports that the healthcare system is overwhelmed” along with the risk of new variants, reports Reuters.
The Qatar News Agency announced on Monday that all travellers from China are required to have a negative Covid-19 test taken no more than 48 hours prior to departure.
