Dubai Police have identified and penalised a group of female motorcyclists who were seen performing dangerous stunts and reckless riding on roads in the city.
The riders concealed number plates and performed several dangerous stunts such as riding on one wheel and standing on the moving motorcycle.
The video emerged on social media and soon went viral. An investigation was conducted to identify the riders and they were summoned to the General Department of Traffic, where they admitted to performing the illegal stunts on several occasions.
Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police said, “These dangerous actions included riding without holding the handlebars, standing on the motorcycle, and riding on one wheel, posing a serious threat to their safety and the safety of other road users. Moreover, one of the motorcyclists concealed the number plate of the motorcycle, believing that this action would help her evade legal consequences.”
The motorcycles have been confiscated and multiple traffic violations were issued. According to the traffic law, such violations are subject to fines of AED2000, three traffic points and a 60-day vehicle impound.
Additionally, reckless drivers who pose a threat to their safety and the safety of others is subject to a AED50,000 fine.
Al Mazroui said that 80 percent of drivers and riders who engage in such types of reckless behavior have been involved in severe accidents.
