Dubai is scaling up real-time AI oversight of its transport sector, with the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Smart Monitoring Centre logging more than 428,000 cases across taxi and luxury fleets in just seven months.
The data-driven system, part of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, is central to enhancing compliance, detecting violations and improving passenger safety across the emirate.
Saeed Al Balooshi, Director of Passenger Transport Activities Monitoring at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said: “The centre recorded over 428,349 monitoring cases in the taxi and luxury transport sectors between January and July 2025.
“These resulted in identifying 29,886 instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. The recorded cases included 3,127 speeding violations, 652 cases of failing to wear seat belts, and 4,251 cases of using mobile phones while driving.

“These monitoring and inspection efforts form part of RTA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing road safety and strengthening public confidence in the transport services provided to all segments of the community.”
Al Balooshi added that the centre is “broadening its scope” by incorporating new AI-led monitoring modes that assess taxi and luxury vehicle driver behaviour.
These enhancements form part of future plans aimed at improving the quality of services offered to passengers.
The Smart Monitoring Centre oversees a range of transport modes, including taxis, luxury vehicles, bus lanes and e-hailing companies in Dubai.
It also manages and develops digital monitoring systems and is advancing plans to automate violations through the use of smart technologies.
In addition to enforcement, the centre provides data and insights to internal and external entities.
It analyses violations and their underlying causes, coordinating with relevant departments to implement corrective measures that reduce non-compliance and strengthen transport safety across the emirate.
