Dubai-based e-hailing taxi service Hala is set to make its international debut in Egypt, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth strategy.

The expansion comes through a partnership with MwaslaTech, an Egyptian smart transport and shared mobility solutions provider.

The collaboration was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Hala’s Dubai headquarters. Khaled Nuseibeh, CEO of Hala, and Yasser Sedky, CEO of MwaslaTech, were present at the signing ceremony along with other senior executives from both companies.

Hala’s initial focus will be on Egypt’s New Administrative Capital (NAC), an ambitious urban development project east of Cairo that has been under construction since 2015.

The company also plans to expand its services to other Egyptian cities, introducing advanced technologies to enhance the travel experience for customers.

“This is a proud moment for all of us at Hala as we pursue new and exciting opportunities beyond the UAE for the first time,” said Nuseibeh. “We are dedicated to delivering the same high standard of service excellence and innovation into this new market.”

Since its launch in 2019, Hala has transformed transportation in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, focusing on reliability and customer experience. The company reported a 20 percent growth in new users during Q1 2024 compared to the same period last year.

“This initiative combines e-hailing with street-hailing, building on our proven track record in smart transport solutions tailored for Egyptian commuters,” said Yasser Sedky, CEO of MwaslaTech.

Hala’s expansion into Egypt

The taxi booking app plans to work closely with both government and private stakeholders in Egypt to address the unique transportation needs of Cairo commuters. The company’s expansion into Egypt represents its first venture outside the UAE and marks the beginning of its growth strategy in the MENAT (Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey) region.

As Hala prepares to enter the Egyptian market, it brings with it a reputation for innovation and efficiency. The company has recently introduced in-car digital screens and has trained over 2,577 drivers, referred to as “Captains,” since January 2024 to ensure high-quality service.
