World’s first all-electric, autonomous, four-seat eVTOL air taxi was revealed by Wisk Aero

An electric flying taxi has been unveiled, offering passengers the ability to skip traffic at a low cost.

The electric flying taxi will seat four passengers, the bright yellow exterior with 12 rotors, will fly at an altitude of 2500 – 4000 above ground level. With a cruising speed of 120 knots, this could be the most sustainable way for individuals to beat traffic.

The vehicle features vertical take-off and landing (VTOL).

Sustainability and electric vehicles are a key focus in the UAE. A flying electric taxi would offer a new way of commuting, and open up more routes of sustainable transport and ease of travel.

The lack of oil and fuel use by the electric flying taxi means a lower chance of component failure, increased safety and security precautions have been ensured, Wisk said.

The flying taxi features storage for baggage, a personal carry-on compartment, Wi-Fi and device charging stations.

The Wisk Aero video explains, “Part of the mission is to make the service for everyone, means a price point where everyone from college students to business professionals, will have the ability to make this a part of their everyday lives.”

Entry and exit is designed for individuals across the mobility spectrum, promoting wider access and inclusivity.

“In 2010, we set out to find a way to skip traffic and get to our destination faster,” said Gary Gysin, CEO of Wisk. For the last 12 years, five developments of the aircraft has taken place, with the sixth unveiled on Wednesday. This version is the first-ever candidate for US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) certification for an autonomous, passenger-carrying eVTOL air taxi.

“That inspiration evolved into a mission to deliver safe, everyday flight for everyone. Over the past 12 years, we’ve pursued that mission through the development of five different generations of full-scale aircraft. Our 6th Generation aircraft is the culmination of years of hard work from our industry-leading team, learnings from our previous generations of aircraft, commitment from our investors, and the evolution and advancement of technology,” Gysin added.

Wisk Aero is backed by The Boeing Company and Kitty Hawk Corporation. Earlier this year, the company received $450 million in funding from Boeing.

Dubai is a hub for sustainability and technology, with the emirate already featuring a fleet of sustainable transport options aims to further expand in that sector.

GITEX is set to take place in Dubai from October 10-14, the technology event will feature an eVTOL flying car by Xpeng in partnership with Dubai Chamber of Commerce. The flying car is equipped with an autonomous flight system with the speed of 130 km/h.
