Passengers aboard an Etihad Airways flight from Toronto to Abu Dhabi on February claimed that they were stuck in the aircraft for a total of nearly 24 hours, after the plane was diverted twice.
The diversion reportedly took place, first for a broken part to be replaced and then for an unscheduled change of crew.
Several passengers claimed that they were never given the opportunity to get off the Boeing 787 Dreamliner during the entire time.

They also complained that when the passengers finally reached Abu Dhabi, none of the airline’s representative(s) provided further information to help with hotel accommodation.
Nevertheless, passengers took it to social media to express the discomfort they faced while travelling as well.
Etihad Airways flight from Toronto
However, speaking to Arabian Business, an Etihad Airways spokesperson said that the “Etihad Airways flight EY140 from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Abu Dhabi (AUH) 03 February, returned to Toronto Pearson shortly after take-off due to a technical issue.”
The spokesperson added: “The aircraft performed a normal landing into Toronto. The aircraft returned to gate where doors were opened for any passengers who wished to exit to the terminal. Cabin crew performed meal service and all guests were provided food and refreshments. The aircraft remained on stand with its doors open, and some passengers disembarked to the terminal. When the aircraft was ready to depart the majority of passengers returned onboard, while six passengers chose to offload themselves from the flight and remain in Toronto. No passengers displayed signs or complained of illness at any point.”
“All required technical inspections were completed and the flight departed for Abu Dhabi shortly after 6:30 AM local time on 4 February. The safety and comfort of our guests and crew is our number one priority and we apologise for the disruption to our guest’s travel plans,” the spokesperson said.
