Abu Dhabi Airports has partnered with US aerospace company BETA Technologies to provide electric charging infrastructure for the country’s emerging air taxi network, a key milestone in the UAE’s plans to develop an advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem.
Under the agreement, BETA will install its certified Charge Cube and Battery Thermal Management System at Al Bateen Executive Airport and Zayed International Airport, which are expected to serve as key nodes in the first phase of the network.
The systems will power electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, with the UAE’s first commercial air taxi routes due to launch in 2026.
The charging system is already operational at Al Bateen Executive Airport, while installation at Zayed International will follow. Earlier this year, Abu Dhabi Airports was tasked with leading the development of AAM infrastructure, operations, and commercial readiness across the Emirates. Its long-term roadmap outlines a phased rollout of up to 14 public vertiports in major urban and transport hubs.
As part of the agreement, BETA will also provide on-site technical consulting, maintenance, and training. Its systems are designed to serve both electric aircraft and ground vehicles, offering interoperable and scalable charging solutions that can be integrated across the wider transport network.
“BETA is excited to continue the international deployment of our charging solutions. We believe this commitment to permanent ground infrastructure shows the strength and momentum of our industry,” said Chad Nichols, BETA’s Charge Operations Lead. “Ours is the world’s first and only certified electric aviation charging and thermal management solution, and we are excited to work with Abu Dhabi Airports to deploy it throughout the region to support electric flights.”
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “Our collaboration with BETA ensures the robust infrastructure needed to make Abu Dhabi’s air taxi network a commercial reality, safe, sustainable, and built for the future.”
BETA currently operates a charging network of more than 50 sites across the United States and Canada. Its partnership with Abu Dhabi Airports marks the company’s first expansion into the Middle East, supporting the UAE’s goal of becoming a global hub for next-generation, sustainable aviation.
