Travellers between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain on the King Fahd Causeway will no longer need to stop to make cash payments after new digital services have been introduced.
The King Fahd Causeway Authority (KFCA) announced four e-payment services to ease crossing of the major bridges on both sides.
Using the KFCA’s Jesr (Causeway) app will allow travellers to pass e-gates without needing to stop and hand over cash.

The four e-payment services linked to the app are:
- Number plate recognition: Barq technology in cameras and sensors will detect vehicle registration to identify registered vehicles and deduct toll fee accordingly
- Radio Frequency Identification: A Tasheel radio chip placed in a vehicle’s front windshield will trigger an alert when passing through e-gates and deduct payment from an e-wallet
- QR code: Frequent travellers can scan a QR code at the King Fahd Causeway to effortlessly make a payment from a registered e-wallet with pre-loaded funds
- App payment: Using the Yusur service on the KFCA app allows travellers to pay a one-time transit fee when moving between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain
The KFCA offers free Wi-Fi in Saudi Arabia to support digital access for travellers using the app.
The King Fahd Causeway is a major road, which attracts huge numbers of travellers. On Saturday, March 4, a record 136,498 travellers used the causeway.
