Sharjah Police has announced the cancellation of more than 7,000 old traffic fines, benefitting 284 individuals, under a decision implemented by the Sharjah Executive Council to help residents clear long-standing violations.
Under the new rule, traffic violations that are more than 10 years old can be waived.
The initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on vehicle owners while encouraging greater compliance with traffic regulations across the emirate.

Applicants seeking to benefit from the waiver must pay a AED1,000 ($272) fee per request.
However, Sharjah Police confirmed that some cases are exempt — including when a vehicle owner has passed away, moved abroad for at least 10 years, or abandoned a vehicle and cannot be located.
Residents who qualify can apply at traffic and licencing service centres across Sharjah.
Sharjah Police also reminded motorists of the fine reduction system already in place.
Drivers who settle their fines within 60 days of receiving them are eligible for a 35 per cent discount on both the fine and associated fees, such as towing or impound charges.
Payments made after 60 days but within one year qualify for a 25 per cent discount, which applies only to the fine itself.
Officials said the decision reflects Sharjah’s wider effort to support vehicle owners, promote timely fine payments, and enhance public satisfaction through transparent and flexible enforcement mechanisms.
