Technical glitch forces San Francisco-bound Air India flight to make unscheduled landing in Siberia

This is the second Air India flight that has made an emergency landing in Russia in the last 13 months

A San Francisco-bound Air India flight AI-183 from Delhi was diverted to Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk Krai due to a technical issue on Thursday.

Air India said the flight made a precautionary landing after the cockpit crew detected a potential issue in the cargo hold area.

This is the second Air India flight that has made an emergency landing in Russia in the last 13 months.

“Air India flight AI-183 operating from Delhi to San Francisco has been diverted to Krasnoyarsk International airport (UNKL) in Russia due to a technical reason.

“The aircraft has landed safely, and we are working with relevant authorities to ensure guests are taken care of while we decide the next course of action,” the airline said in a statement.

As many as 225 passengers and 19 crew members were on board the flight.

Air India said it was making arrangements to ferry the passengers on an alternative flight to San Francisco soon.
