The governments of the UAE and Finland have signed an open skies agreement that will allow any carriers to perform commercial air services between both countries.
The deal signed between the two permits for full flexibility on routes, capacity, number of frequencies and types of aircraft. It will also allow for unrestricted charter operations between the Gulf state and Finland.
There are currently no direct passenger services between the UAE and Finland, with most journeys changing in either Istanbul or Amsterdam.
Head of the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi was accompanied by representatives of Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia and other local carriers as he signed the deal.
The UAE currently has 122 open skies agreements with other countries, the second most in the world.
“United Arab Emirates is driven more than ever to continue its international collaboration in air transport and shall continue its far-reaching and sound advances toward opening and liberating skies with countries of the world,” said Laila Ali Bin Hareb Al Muhairi, executive director of strategy and international affairs at the GCAA.
