The UAE is an “important” and “stable” market for Chinese automotive brand OMODA & JAECOO, the company’s CEO Shawn Xu told Arabian Business.
OMODA & JAECOO are two relatively new automobile brands that were established in 2022 by the Chinese automaker Chery, as part of their strategy to expand its global presence and cater to different market segments.
Xu’s comments came on the sidelines of the 2024 Chery International User Summit held at Wuhu, China.
“We have established our subsidiary company [OMODA & JAECOO] and since two years, we have started to occupy a lot more of the major markets in the world. UAE is one of the markets where we have started OMODA & JAECOO, whereas Saudi Arabia is another market. This shows how important these regions are to OMODA & JAECOO,” Xu said, adding that the company sees “potential.”
“The market is stable, but many Chinese brands are already there performing well. However, distribution changes sometimes disrupt stability. This is why we are establishing our subsidiary company to stabilise the team and capture the market potential we see – we can focus on this significant market opportunity,” he added.
OMODA is a younger, more trendy brand that focuses on stylish design and technology, whereas JAECOO is a more premium brand that aims to offer luxurious and high-performance vehicles.
Both brands are currently expanding their presence in various international markets, including the Middle East, South Africa, and Southeast Asia. They are known for their modern designs, advanced technology, and competitive pricing.

OMODA & JAECOO unveiled their J5 off-road vehicle during the summit targeting urban youth markets. The vehicle includes specifications for pet transportation and outdoor activities.
The J5 comes with extended seats for pets, an air conditioning filter to block pet hair, and a temperature control system that adjusts based on conditions. The manufacturer has included antibacterial devices to prevent bacterial growth and boarding steps for small pets.

For outdoor capabilities, the J5 features a 1250 KG towing capacity and a 75 KG roof rack. The vehicle includes charging ports, factory-installed hooks in the boot, and camping lights.
The technical specifications comprise a 1.45m panoramic sunroof, which the company states is the largest in its class. The vehicle contains a 13.2-inch integrated screen with navigation systems. The J5 uses independent suspension across all models.
Aside from this, the event saw the company displayed multiple vehicles, including the OMODA C5 and C7 models.
The C5 featured 3D projection patterns from a modification competition, while the C7 incorporated design elements from artist Hajime Sorayama.
The summit included exhibition areas for modified vehicles and user-created designs. The event contained retail spaces for modification products and a streaming area where automotive experts discussed modifications.
The company also aims to provide solutions for urban transport and nature exploration through their vehicle range, with the launch representing OMODA&JAECOO’s strategy to develop their product ecosystem and establish presence in the automotive market with a focus on pet owners and outdoor enthusiasts.
