Tralliance Corporation, used ITB as a platform to announce two major additions to the growing .travel Registry.
Both the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) have signed up to use the .travel domain name for web sites associated with the organisations.
UNWTO launched its new emergency response portal, revealing that the web site would carry the .travel domain name.
“SOS.travel is the natural choice for the signature domain of our system,” said Geoffrey Lipman, assistant secretary general, UNWTO.
“As part of an initiative that promotes a new age of communicating travel information, the .travel internet space provides the ideal backdrop and logical clearing house to which the public can turn for information in times of emergency.”
The site,
www.sos.travel
, provides travel advice and warnings, initially regarding outbreaks of avian flu, that will eventually act as a global tracking system for all emergencies affecting tourists and the travel industry.
Tralliance president Ron Andruff said that the company would continue to be involved with UNWTO initiatives such as SOS.travel.
“It is our duty as an integral part of the global travel and tourism community to ensure that the aims of the United Nations organization are met,” he emphasised.
“As an affiliate member of the UNWTO, Tralliance is committed to making significant contributions to the development of the sector with particular regard to its social responsibility initiatives.”
WTTC also announced that its web site,
www.wttc.org
, would be changed to
www.wttc.travel
.
“This is a crowning glory for us really,” said Daniela Wagner, who recently joined the Tralliance Corporation team as managing director for Europe & Middle East.
Wagner has been central to the launch of the Tralliance Partners Programme, where local tourism experts are appointed in a country to provide customer service and sales support to existing and potential .travel partners.
“We have listened to the marketplace and have responded to the needs of our constituents in these key geographic areas,” she explained.
Ten partners, including Greece, France, Hungary, Romania, Austria and Portugal have joined to date.
