Majid Al Futtaim Group’s (MAF) Bahrain City Centre development will include a water park attached to the mall, 75% of which will be indoors.
The waterpark will cover 15000m² of the total mall space of 150,000m² and is part of MAFs commitment to providing a leisure destination for Bahrain said general manager Family Entertainment Centres (FEC) Silvio Liedtke.
“This forms part of the MAF’s vision of creating not just a shopping mall, but a leisure destination for Bahrain.
“The interesting thing is 75% of the total area of the waterpark is indoors. It includes a themed area around a big pirate ship, a wave pool, slides, relaxation areas and surf areas where young and old can hone their skills on riding the waves. There will also be a lazy river – all the usual favourites,” Liedtke said.
The waterpark will sit alongside a cinema, two FECs – one a Magic Planet, the other based on a video bowling concept and two hotels – a five-star Kempinski and a four-star IXIR.
Bahrain City Centre’s leisure component is being managed by project managers from MAFs’ leisure and entertainment division and it is aiming to open the waterpark soon after the opening of the mall, scheduled to open in autumn this year.
“The key is the fact that the waterpark is integrated into the shopping mall basically to provide a year round different dimension to shopping in Bahrain,” concluded Liedtke.
