The city of Phnom Penh in Cambodia may only have its first skyscraper under construction, but the destination is already piquing the interest of meetings industry professionals, according to one of the city’s hoteliers.
Raffles Le Royal Phnom Penh general manager Peter Wynne said the country was experiencing significant business growth.
“We do have a great deal of corporate business; the state of development and growth of Cambodia at the moment is rapid, so we’re seeing the growth of a lot of new companies as well as existing companies, and demand for meetings space is growing,” he said.
Wynne added that the hotel was not only seeing local corporate business: “Of course there’s a great many Cambodian companies using the facilities here, but we’re also witnessing an increase in overseas ‘MICE’ business,” he revealed.
Raffles Le Royal, the only five-star property in the city, comprises 170 rooms ranging from royal suite to state room; a ballroom accommodating up to 400; five break-out rooms; two restaurants; a conservatory café; a patisserie and the hotel’s trademark Elephant Bar.
“We have a very healthy mix of business and leisure travellers,” said Wynne.
“Normally we’re about 20% ‘MICE’, 50% business and about 20-30% leisure. We are an attractive and different option,” he concluded.
