Dubai’s Terminal 3 completes first trial

Ahead of opening later this year, new facility, which will double capacity, is put through its paces.

Dubai Airports has completed its first trial at Dubai International’s Terminal 3 in a move which brings the long awaited terminal closer to its opening date.

Designed to simulate typical airport operating scenarios, the trial was the first in a series of tests which aim to test the new facility’s systems.

“The trials will prepare us as much as possible to ensure that we meet the needs of our customers when our new terminal opens,” said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

Further major trials are scheduled for the end of August and the end of September.

Once completed the new terminal will nearly double the airport’s capacity from 34 million passengers a year to 60 million.

The new terminal will also include the very latest technology such as self-check bag drop and self service passenger areas.

Last month Emirates president Tim Clark said it was expected to be progressively opened between mid-October and the beginning of December.
