Kitopi, the UAE-based leading tech-powered, multi-brand restaurant chain, announced on Monday making substantial strides in reducing its carbon footprint, achieving a milestone of saving 1 million tons of CO2 emissions through its partnership with Fresh On Table, a UAE-based agri-tech platform.
The duo achieved the milestone in a short span of three months after initiating the partnership in August 2023.
“In just three months, Kitopi has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to sustainability, achieving remarkable milestones that underscore the positive impact on the environment and local communities,” the company said in a media statement.
One of the key achievements is the expansion of the cloud kitchen company’s menu to over 50 items, showcasing the diverse range of local ingredients sourced through Fresh On Table.
By integrating more items into its offerings, Kitopi not only enhances the culinary experience for its customers but also continues to support local farmers and promote food security within the UAE, the company said.
In terms of environmental impact, Kitopi has tripled its food miles savings from a target of 7.5 million to 30 million, indicating their strategic shift towards more localised and sustainable sourcing.
The increase in food miles is a positive indicator of Kitopi’s efforts to prioritise local produce, reduce transportation distances, and minimise the overall ecological impact.
“Our partnership with Fresh On Table has exceeded expectations in terms of sustainability and environmental impact. Saving 1 million tons in CO2 emissions is a testament to our commitment to creating a more sustainable future for the food industry,” said Kunal Gupta, Senior Director of Supply Chain at Kitopi.
“We are proud to contribute to the wellbeing of the planet while delivering high-quality, locally sourced meals for our customers,” he added.
Atul Chopra, Founder and CEO of Fresh On Table, said the impact the two together have made in these short three months is remarkable by any standards.
“Partners like Kitopi walk the talk,” he said.
Chopra said with the winter season kicking in, these numbers will continue to set new benchmarks.
As part of their dedication to transparency, Kitopi continues to leverage Fresh On Table’s advanced technology platform, ensuring comprehensive traceability of sourced produce.
Real-time data on CO2 emissions and food miles saved is readily available, allowing Kitopi to monitor and communicate the ongoing positive environmental impact of their initiatives.
