Kuwait International Airport was forced to close to all traffic on Friday as a dust storm hit the country.
The country also suspended all oil exploration and exportation due to the poor weather conditions, officials confirmed, adding that operations restarted on Saturday.
Talal al-Sabah said maintenance work had also resumed at refineries, adding that the supply of petroleum products to local and foreign customers had not been affected, Kuwait’s state news agency KUNA reported..
Essam Al-Zamil, director of the Operations Department at Kuwait International Airport, said in a statement to news agency KUNA that the dense dust storm and strong winds had forced all incoming flights to be transferred to other airports.
Al-Zamil added that all outgoing flights were also halted until the weather conditions improved.
The dust storm reduced visibility to less than 500 metres, while there is no visibility at all in some areas, he said.
Kuwaiti Petroleum Corporation (KPC) also announced the suspension of all oil exploration and exportation.
KPC also suspended maintenance operations at oil refineries.
