Lufthansa’s UAE office has revealed plans to launch an outbound holidays operation.
Rather than operate a ‘Lufthansa Holidays’ division, the German flag carrier will team up with local operators to produce holiday packages to Europe under the ‘Holiday Europe’ brand.
“If you go into the tour operator business, you have to do it professionally,” said Uwe Wreidt, general manager, passenger sales UAE & director Gulf and Pakistan, Lufthansa. “Professionalism is not only a catalogue; professionalism is to have the right distribution channels, the right call centres, the right people and the right software that can package all things together.”
Wreidt did not reveal when the company would start to operate, but hinted that an ATM launch would not be out of the question.
Holiday Europe, he said, would initially offer “mid-to top-end” packages to four or five destinations in Germany and eight other European destinations.
“Definitely Berlin will be one,” he said. “We will be cooperating with a couple of high-end hotels in Berlin, [including] the Adlon Kempinski.”
Wreidt said if the UAE operation was successful, it would be rolled out in other GCC countries.
