Lufthansa’s trans-Atlantic expansion

German national carrier launches three new trans-Atlantic routes.

Lufthansa is to launch three new routes in North America and Canada in May 2008.

The German national carrier is to introduce non-stop Airbus A340-300 flights between Chicago, Newark, New Jersey and the German industrial city of Dusseldorf, and a new five weekly service between Toronto and Dusseldorf. The new routes will represent the only three-class services between North America and Dusseldorf.

“We’ve registered a clear demand for Lufthansa premium services on trans-Atlantic routes and are thrilled to accommodate this demand both on-board and on the ground in Dusseldorf, where the quality of the infrastructure is very high,” said Jens Bischof, vice president, the Americas, Lufthansa.

He added: “At the same time, Economy Class travellers will benefit from a comfortable stay on-board and easy connections through Dusseldorf and beyond.”

The new planes will replace the current 48-seat business class only aircraft operating the Chicago-Dusseldorf and Newark-Dusseldorf routes, and will offer eight first class, 48 business class and 165 economy class seats.
