Qatar Airways is on track to launch at least nine new routes this year.
The carrier has already introduced direct flights to Chennai, Bali, Lagos and Ho Chi Minh City, and five more will launch by the end of 2007, including locations in the US and Melbourne in Australia.
“Our first move into the US market this summer represents an important step in the history of Qatar Airways,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.
“The addition of New York and Washington will provide Qatar Airways with access to two key cities and a gateway to the rest of the United States.”
The carrier will introduce direct services to New York and Geneva on June 28, and a Washington via Geneva service from the summer.
Direct flights to Stockholm will commence in November 2007.
According to Ray D’Souza, operations manager, Qatar Airways Holidays, the destinations that have already been launched will feature in the operator’s forthcoming 2007/8 holidays brochure.
“The brochure will be out in April, but that won’t include the US; we will have a separate publication for the US,” he told
ATN
exclusively.
“We may just come out with a much smaller version [of the brochure], probably a pamphlet or a four-page flyer.”
Flight times for the new routes were yet to be revealed when
ATN
went to press.
In addition, the airline has been granted air rights to Australia and will start flying to Melbourne later this year. It will be permitted to operate services to a second Australian city, probably Sydney, next year.
