Qatar’s aim to establish itself as a regional heavyweight in the MICE sector was pivotal in the selection of Doha as the location for W’s brand debut in the Middle East, according to W Doha general manager Safak Guvenc.
“This will impact on high end customers that are regular travellers and loyal to hotel brands,” Guvenc explained.
“W Doha will offer a level of design, energy and style that does not yet exist in Qatar while giving our guests access to some of the most authentic and treasured elements of the city, including shopping in traditional souks.”
With construction of the property 75% complete, the hotel’s unique architecture stands out in West Bay, continued Guvenc.
“All contracts have been signed, designs have been finalised and the opening date is scheduled for mid-2008,” he said.
“The West Bay – as opposed to the old downtown – is the emerging commercial heart of the city and contains the majority of the new commercial developments, as well as the majority of the city’s luxury hotels. After analyzing the latest figures and statistics, one can understand that Qatar is thriving by attracting more and more business and investments to the country.
“The design is modern and contemporary with an infusion of the design elements indigenous to the region, including lighting, colours, and social areas.”
Other W Hotels slated for the region include Istanbul and Dubai (Festival City), both scheduled to open next year. A further property is planned to open in Dubai on The Palm in 2010.
