Kuwait’s Ministry of Social Affairs has banned the recruitment of children under 15 years of age, according to Al Watan newspaper.
Children aged above 15 and below 18 can work only with permission from the ministry at the request of an employer, said Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mohammed Al-Ifasi.
According to the newspaper, the permission needs to be renewed annually, and limits the type of work children are allowed to undertake, as well as the places they may work.
Mentioned in the edict are, among other things, cement factories, the asphalt industry, batteries, cooling facilities, the handling and manufacturing of insecticides, the manufacturing of electrical cylinders, fertiliser production, carrying heavy loads, the making of bricks, and petroleum and gas extraction.
