Middle East distributor Intuit Technology LLC is demonstrating a small selection of products at its stand from the various brands it represents in the region.

The highlight of the stand, however, is Drobo, an easy-to-use desktop storage kit with a capacity of six terabytes and expandable to 16. Aimed at the small office user and the techie in the home environment, the Drobo plugs into a Mac, PC or Linux system via hi-speed USB 2.0.

Drobo is fully automatic and uses a combination of 3.5" SATA I or II drives -within four drive bays. This storage device is especially handy for home users who are increasingly looking for cost-effective and user-friendly options to store their home videos and digital photos.

Each bay includes a number of lights to indicate battery life, storage capacity and more, thereby eliminating conjecture. Drobo also provides the data redundancy features normally associated with RAID such as mirroring and date stripping, without the complexities of RAID. Drobo will create one large pool of protected expandable storage, thereby eliminating the need to manage multiple external drives.

At US $700, this storage device is a steal for home users and a must-see product at GITEX 2008.
