IP camera watches out for thieves

A surveillance system that could help crackdown on on-site theft of building materials and equipment has been developed by Axis Communications.

The IP-based Axis 223M camera also allows project developers and contractors to detect any threats to health and safety as well as remotely keep track of the construction process.

The company unveiled the product at Intersec Middle East earlier this week.

"It's typical with any construction site, where you have people coming and going during the day who know what valuables are there," said Dominic Bruning, marketing director, AXIS Communications.

"Typically, you could have a very secure system in the morning, but due to changes on site during the day, this could become weakened so the security of the site can be very hard to manage.

"This IP-based system allows you to monitor the site, and have video images sent from that site to a remote location. So from a purly practical point of view, you don't need to visit that site to see what's going on."
