Iris scans block 281,566 illegal visitors to UAE

Eye-scanning proving successful in bid to keep deported people out of the UAE.

More than 280,000 deported people have been prevented from re-entering the UAE following the introduction of iris scan technology.

Police in the UAE capital said as many as 281,566 deported people had been stopped across all emirates.

Some of those turned back had been caught earlier trying to enter the country illegally while others had been deported after being convicted of involvement in illegal activities, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Tuesday.

The UAE is one of the first countries in the world to use the iris scan system and owns the largest database of iris scans in the world, according to the police.
