Jacobs Group to support Thames water

Construction-services provider Jacobs Engineering Group is to provide engineering services to UK utility firm Thames Water for an undisclosed sum.

Jacobs will support the delivery of Thames Water’s US $5.7 billion (AED21 billion) capital investment program past 2010.

Thames Water has the largest investment program of the UK’s water firms.

It supplies water to over 13 million people in London and the south-east of England.

Jacobs is already delivering services such as trunk mains replacement, sewer flooding alleviation and water and wastewater network diversions to accommodate new infrastructure projects in London.

The firm has also won a services and infrastructure contract to design the new Qatar Petroleum complex in Doha, Qatar.

Jacobs will team with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill to create a site of around 600,000m2 at the Lusail commercial development.

It will be responsible for mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems engineering, delivering infrastructure designs and co-ordinating the services on the Qatar project.

The Doha project is expected to take around four years to finish.

Financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
